Creating a dream home in the center of Amsterdam was no small feat. We wanted a unique and spacious blank slate to carve out a family’s lifestyle needs—the complete opposite of a typical Dutch home.
We stumbled across this 1930s garage: a hidden gem in a vibrant neighborhood. The 100sqm ground floor space is located just a few steps away from the famous Rijksmuseum. In just 6 months, we transformed it into a stylish family home for four.

The ceiling was then transformed into skylights. Below, we included a master bedroom and two children’s rooms that double as a playroom. Each bedroom is divided by a glass partition wall to circulate the natural light.
Inspired by the building’s industrial heritage, we restored the original concrete floor and held on to its stories and imperfections. We offset this cool foundation with clay walls and arched wooden doors reminiscent of the Amsterdam School architectural period.
